Whatever format your online marketing takes, you need to define for it a personality. And you need to define it quick.

I’m sure you’ve been on websites that don’t. You know the ones I’m talking about: it seems like each page was written by a different person. The data you are looking for might be there, but it isn’t presented consistently. And even the headlines bore you.

Don’t be that website. That blog. That Twitter. Or that anything. The most successful websites, blogs, social media and so forth are those who know who they are.

It’s the same with people: know thyself. Only in this case it is know thy website.

So, how do you do it? How do you define a web personality?

Start with these online marketing personality type questions:

  1. Describe your organization in three words (are you fun, hip, young? Are you professional, clear, experts? Are you technical, no-nonsense, data-driven?)Use these words to define you and then use them in every online marketing initiative you put forth.
  2. What are your users looking for? (Do they want you to make them laugh? Do they want answers to technical questions? Do they want to see pictures of your location? Or maybe to know more about your product?

Stay tuned for part II: how to apply your online marketing personality.
