Love - and metrics - are in the air!

We love this time of year. All things pink and red, chocolate, roses, and conversation hearts abound. Restaurants experience a higher number of reservations. Street vendors earn easy money selling overpriced roses. And Victoria's Secret sales skyrocket. There are a plethora of reasons you should really be feeling the love come this weekend.

Another reason why February is so special to us? We get to talk about metrics. Metrics make us swoon. And conversation_hearts_data_is_dreamy.pngwe're hoping they can give you the same warm and fuzzy feeling.

The number one we reason we love metrics is they help us empower community greatness. What is community greatness? It's a main pillar of our agency. It's helping organizations create jobs in their communities - jobs that change the lives of the very people who live, work, and play in these communities. It's making a commitment to create 200,000 additional jobs for these communities by the year 2025.

So how do metrics really play a role? It starts with accountability. 22% of economic developers say that being accountable for things they can't control makes them nervous (How High Performance Economic Development Creates Exceptional Communities). Part of our goal is to put this control back in the hands of economic developers. Part of our goal is to help organizations hold themselves accountable for their work and realize their influence and impact on a place. Another part of our goal is to empower EDOs to truly understand this very influence and impact by way of data (metrics!). And the last part of our goal is to teach the industry how to improve year over year.

Lucky for you, the economic development industry, and organizations serving a board, is that we've come up with a way to easily measure your EDOs efforts with tangible outcomes. Atlas' High Performance Economic Development survey is designed to help you measure your effectiveness, your work, and your community's greatness. Answering 10 questions will yield a customized report showing where you sit among similar sized organizations, and you'll see, through four visual benchmarks, the performance of your EDO from last year.

The icing on the cake, or rather, the chocolate mousse? Your data will become part of a larger metrics discussion. One that we roll out every fall in our annual white paper.
